South Marengo County
Fire & Rescue Squad
organization in the southern portion of Marengo County.  The people started
talking and in September of 1975 the first organizational meeting of the South
Marengo County Rescue Squad was the result.  (We have since updated the name
to better represent us to South Marengo County Fire and Rescue Squad)  Above is
one of the first pictures of members of our department together.   Since that time
we have served the residents of the southern portion of Marengo County with
medical, fire, and rescue services.  We have increased and decreased our services
and equipment based on the number of volunteers we had, the volume and
location of calls in different areas and in relation to the development of new
departments in our area.  Currently, we have major equipment (vehicles) in three
different locations but we have smaller, more portable equipment (radios, oxygen
systems, medic bags, etc.) and supplies located in several other locations across
In the fall of 1975 a few people saw a need for some kind of an emergency service
our coverage area.  We hope by spreading this equipment out into the community
we will benefit our resident and visitors by getting the necessary supplies to
