Member department of the Alabama Assoc of Rescue Squads,
Alabama Assoc of Volunteer Fire departments, and
Marengo Assoc of Volunteer Fire and Rescue Departmtent.
A brief story about our department:

In 1975 There was no organized fire or rescue department of any sorts in the southern portion of Marengo
county.  A few volunteers from our area were members of the Marengo County Rescue Squad in Linden.
When they were unable to get that organization to put equipment and resources in the south end of the
county they got together and a discussion was started about starting a new department that would
present the people of south Marengo County.  In August and September of 1975 the first organizational
meetings were held and the South Marengo County Rescue Squad, Inc was founded.  (We have since
updated the name of the organization to South Marengo County Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc.)

Above is one of the first pictures of some members of the department.

Since starting up in 1975 we have served the residents of our area with medical, fire and rescue services.
We have increased and decreased our services and equipment based on the number of volunteers we
had, the volume and location of calls in different areas and in relation to the development of new
departments in the area.  As of January 2011 we have five vehicles located in three different areas of our
coverage area.  In addition to this major equipment we have smaller, more portable equipment (radios,
oxygen systems, medical bags, etc.) and supplies located in several other locations across the area.  The
spreading of equipment helps us get the necessary equipment to where it is needed faster.

We continue to rely on residents of the area to help staff our department and a large portion of our
operating funds still come from donations from the people living here or the people we help daily.
